Men of Menedez 1565AD. In 1983 the Men of Menendez was formed to interpret the 16th century honoring the founder of Saint Augustine, Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles. Menendez who founded Saint Augustine on September 8th 1565. Some of our events include “ Founders Day” or “Menendez Landing” depending on who you’re talking to,”Menendez Birthday Celebration “ , “Drakes’ Raid”,and a number of school and civic events, where we involve the public in a “first person “ interpertion. The interpertion of the 16 th century is one that only a few groups in the USA participate. We have been involved in a number of film projects, including the National Parks Service, the History Channel,TLC, and many college and university film studies.
